The question is better phrased: Is liberalism a suicide pact? Are we required to extend liberal tolerance of dissent even to those who are seeking to overturn the foundations of liberalism itself.

Whether we like to admit it or not, Enlightenment liberalism is deeply indebted to the Judeo-Christian view of man. "All men are created equal and endowed with rights" is nonsensical if man doesn't have a Creator. If man is just a smart ape, he's governed by natural law not divine law, and in nature, the strong oppress and murder the weak with impunity. Absent "man made in the image of God", might makes right.

We've forgotten that liberal tolerance is just a tool to allow people to coexist without trying to kill each other. So why would we tolerate those who use our liberal values to advocate killing anyway?

I totally agree regarding the double standard.

Unlike other conservatives, I don't want to ban or censor most of what's being said right now. Better that we see where (and who) the roaches are in the bright light.

That said, it's past time to allow for conservative, Republican, "MAGA" and similar banned speech to be welcomed and allowed in all university as well as institutional entities, with DEI being totally eliminated as recognition of its blatantly racist, divisive, and low-expectation-feeding consequences.
