Maybe the concept of "prosecutorial discretion" should be reexamined. In Australia, the speed limits are actually the limits. No discretion. If you exceed it, you are caught on camera and a summons is issued. Maybe our laws should be simpler and more binary; you either broke the law, or you didn't.
The ongoing problem with our system of leaving it up to the politician is that political goals are prosecuted by discretely NOT prosecuting the privileged while targeting the less fortunate. "The war on drugs" was a political campaign, not a discretionary prosecutorial one. IMO.
Sure, prosecutors are "targeting" Trump. He's invited it in no less a way than Al Capone did. Neither will have been held to account for all the crimes they perpetrated, nor even the worst, but both will be and should be, convicted criminals.
