I believe Mr. Dershowitz misunderstands the value of DEI to the Western ruling class. Dividing people into oppressor / oppressed categories by race and sex and sexuality isn't just about virtue signaling. It serves a very real and critical political goal: preventing class solidarity.
Class is the real privilege in America and the other Enlightenment countries. It always has been. The Catholic workers' and union and socialist movements of the 1910's-1940's were a real threat to that class privilege, and the elite learned from it. DEI keeps the masses focused on superficial intersectional categories, none of which present no real threat to the wealth and power of our elites.
Claudine Gay is still a Harvard professor. She hasn't been thrown under he bus or kicked out of the ruling class. She's been demoted because her value as an intersectional shill was eclipsed by her baggage as an obviously unqualified person -- she became too inconvenient for the DEI to defend. That edifice isn't even dented by her departure though.
My grandson attends the Sy Syms School of Business at Yeshiva University. He said that applications to Y.U. are up 65%. He said that he is comfortable at Y.U., studies in the library with no interruptions and is never victimized by intimidation by Moslems. He said he is quite happy with his choice. I am so happy that he is there.
In a word, no.

Perhaps the beginning of the end...as she lost billions of funding for the University.
