I can believe it. Leftists are becoming increasingly violent and fanatical under the influence of Critical Theory in its various intolerant metastases such as Critical Race Theory which is really just the zombie corpse of National Socialism stalking the world again. It's like a religion to them, and when they encounter heresy, they feel entitled to assault that person. They use the word 'Fascist' not as a noun or an adjective, but as an action where they brand someone as a target to be destroyed.

Hello Mr. Dershowitz.. Thank you for sharing my email. Now that I know you will actually post this shit expect to receive many more tales from me in the future.

I do wonder, Mr. Dershowitz, if it ever even occurred to you that such behavior as the reader on the beach experienced was the direct result of a large (figuratively), powerful person who, whether that powerful person knows it or not, is a public role model and that behaving as he did - openly sanctioning borderline violent behavior, ridiculing others (such as the handicapped), and not speaking out when his supporters acted in a decidedly untoward manner - have permission to others to do the same? Think about it.

Lola. Donald Trump never strikes first nor does he punch down. Trump hit-back whenever he was hit first and every person on the receiving end of one of Trump's verbal lashings are fully grown adults with the means and the ability to defend themselves. Trump never made fun of a handicapped reporter - that did not happen. The story is another piece of Leftist propaganda peddled out by the Democrats to brainwash that party's weak-minded, easily manipulated, and hate-filled followers - Lola - that means you.

I voted for Trump twice (with no enthusiasm, seeing him as the lesser of offered evils), but I'm fed up with his narcissism and braggadocio, his thin-skinned vindictiveness, his petty insults, his pig-headed devotion to wishful thinking, and his recently-demonstrated recklessness and lack of understanding of and respect for the US Constitution.

The widely-accepted belief that he mocked a certain reporter's physical handicap, however, is a bum rap. He was mocking the man's (supposed) equivocation when questioned about a news report that Trump had cited to vindicate his assertion about people celebrating the destruction of the World Trade Center towers on 9/11. He'd previously mocked (supposed) equivocation by a general and Ted Cruz, who were not disabled, in the same way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oTqFoOGiro

Nonsense.

When I voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020 I had no way of knowing that on January 6, 2021 he'd fire up a crowd on the Mall with stolen-election talk and exhort listeners to "march peacefully and patriotically" over to the US Capitol to demand that Pence and Republican Senate members refuse to certify electoral votes from states where the outcome had supposedly been flipped by fraud and that some of those listeners would assault Capitol police, break into the building, and commit acts of vandalism.

You know, Lola, you may be correct. However, each individual has agency to act like an idiot or not, and it seems to me that you didn't think this through. Satan attempts to influence us all (or Maxine Waters, or Rashida Tlaib, Matt Gaetz, Taylor Swift, or whomever you think may be a negative influence, if you do not believe in God/Satan). WE alone decide to succumb to evil. So we alone are responsible for our actions. And that same "powerful person" often asks people to do something positive. Again each of us has a choice to make. We are not all idiots. We choose to act as we do, and trying to dump the blame on the "powerful person" reduces each individual to mere helplessness. That is not the case. Think about it.

This comment reads like it was written by an earnest 12 year-old comics reader. Bullies have been kicking sand in the face of 'weaklings' since the days of Charles Atlas ads in said comic books back in the 50's. Are today's "liberals" yesterday's "weaklings?" Is a minor dust-up between some adolescents another sign of the end of Western civilization? Stay tuned...

Just my opinion, of course. I began my adult life as a liberal. Back in the day, it was about freedom. Back then, it was fitting that it was more rightwing authoritarian, locking people up for what amounts to differences of opinion, although codified. My son, who is 33, and I were discussing both of us were swatted in school for misbehaving. We didn't dare tell our parents for fear of an add-on punishment. It must have been 20 years ago that all that stopped. Much of it was promoted by the press. If one person had committed an unusual crime, the press demanded and paraded it as an example that must have extensive legislation affecting the rights of a majority.

But then there was a sea-change in mentality when a few with unusual sexual desires wanted to come out of the "closet." The majority agreed they should not be discriminated against, so it was codified. But codifying the "protection" became a right to push all to their lifestyle. The press made it like the banner they chose was, to the majority, an insult to the God they worship who destroyed the earth once but for eight due to their lifestyle. Or so we believe. Can we not admit to the hostility in this in your face by less than 5% of the population? Continuing with a month of "pride" in what the majority finds disgusting is also pushed by the press. The press wanted it into the schools, and the indoctrination became intense. Drag queens are encouraged to come to test this on children who haven't a clue what sexual relations even mean; why?

For what purpose was this other than to indoctrinate. So, pride went from out-of-the-closet to parades and indoctrination of impressional youth but kept this well hidden from the parents of the majority. It has been the majority who have lost rights and have been called domestic terrorists by our federal justice department. It's the majority that the press has branded as troglodytes. The shift of the authoritarians has squarely become the mantra of the liberal left. I left them because they were adopting a hate-filled, violent extremist behavior justified by what they believe is acceptable and what is not. I saw it in myself. Most violent riots are indeed the left if we look back at the summer of love in 2020. And there was little prosecution of those involved. In contrast, the Jan 6th hearings are little more than political theatre. The impeachments have made a farce of the justice system, and the waste of our tax dollars for these productions seems acceptable to the liberal left.

We on the right are frustrated with our representatives because when we gain control, we refuse to play tit for tat. I do not believe the abuse will diminish, given the two parties want us at each other's throats. Still, to be sure, it is the left demanding through insurrection this sea-change, and the government is content for it to be an incredibly corrupt justice system.

Ummm...no. I was brought up as a liberal. My parents always taught me to respect the opinions of others but always work for the greater good. This was particularly important for my father, who barely escaped from the Nazis as a child.

Why do drag queens threaten you? They won't hurt you. If you don't want your child to dress in drag, teach him not to--that's the point of respecting the rights and opinions of others. You'll love him no matter what, right?

And as to your comment about "insurrection," I suggest you look up the meaning of that word and then consider what happened on January 6th.

Hello Frank,

I hope your day is going well and I hope you are happy and healthy. I’m going to try to help you understand my perspective. Can you do your best to help me understand yours as well? I’d like to understand why you feel the way you do. Please try not to outright reject any of my ideas as stupid or ridiculous while you read the rest of this, and I will happily offer you the same respect in return.

Drag-queens are not what a typical trans person looks and dresses like. Drag is more of a performative thing that some people enjoy doing. As with any community of people, there are going to be bad apples. As a form of expression, it is an easy one for the media to latch on to, point a finger at the loud minority of “bad actors” and spark outrage. I don’t particularly enjoy drag, myself, as I just don’t really like the aesthetic of the whole thing, but I do respect their right to dress and perform drag. Drag is not acts of indecent exposure or brainwashing children into being drag-queens, it is just a method of self-expression that a small niche of people enjoy partaking in. The same can be said for Pride parades, but there is an additional dynamic involved. These people have been suppressed and unable to feel comfortable being themselves in normal society for their whole lives. When you take any group of suppressed people and gather them in a group and tell them they can be themselves, of course that will result in some very extreme behavior. But ask yourself this, who is filming that behavior and putting it on your tv? Would you or your children have ever seen or heard of any crazy deviant pride parade shenanigans if not for the news filming it and presenting it to you? Would you personally ever have attended a pride parade with your family? I would guess the probability of a pride parade traumatizing your family is fairly low in reality. Just another straw man or maybe it’s one of those things they use to spark outrage in people with your political views, as they know that at some point their children will reach the angsty stage and want to rebel against their parents.

As far as what it’s like to be trans: It would be much easier to continue pretending I don’t feel this way. I believe it’s the most honest with myself i’ve ever been. I did have a traumatic childhood. I was not sexually abused. I was psychologically abused and emotionally neglected. I’m not currently mentally ill, at least no more than the next person as far as I can ascertain. By that I mean I have my mental faculties about me and I have at least an average level of intelligence. I would never kill myself due to something like not being able to express my gender the way I feel is honest. I have lived suppressed for many years just fine and could continue suppressing that if I needed to. I would not go through this if I didn’t truly feel that the gender i identify with as a personality did not match my physical body. I want to have the freedom to express myself in a way that feels. I don’t enjoy feeling like I am hiding who I am every day. It feels like I’m wearing a disguise so that I blend in. It suppresses whatever the part that gives me a feeling of being a “self” when I live that way. If you still don’t want me to have that freedom, I believe you were saying some stuff about fascism that would be relevant here.

Being a woman is not synonymous with sexual deviant. It’s very telling with some people that when they learn you are trans, they see deviancy. I say that I feel like I am a woman. What about that implies anything sexual? Why would they even be thinking about sex in the first place? (Not referencing you specifically I don’t know if you for sure said anything about sexual deviancy but a lot of folks on the internet do)

Finally, we are not trying to influence anyone’s children towards the LGBT community. I don’t know anyone who would do that, kids don’t need to be hearing about heterosexuality, homosexuality, or trans stuff unless it comes up in a major way with some of the kids at school. I would like schools to teach acceptance and tolerance and discourage bullying, but beyond that leave the subject alone really. Like if it comes up that a couple girls or a couple boys were holding hands, teacher just says something like “that’s ok and it’s fine for them to do that if they want to.”

I figure we are being manipulated into divisiveness on as many issues as they can throw at that wall as they fear that we will see that all of the death and destruction in the world is not a result of our neighbors. Its the work of the people who have continued to wage war and send our children to kill other people’s children since before I was born.

Thanks for you time and I hope this doesn’t come across as the ramblings of an insane person.

Obviously, a senseless act…but I’m not sure what “reason” you’re going to find from someone who confronts you in such a way. I had, both, the luck & misfortune of growing up in northwestern Louisiana as the most unassuming, inoffensive Jewish kid you could possibly imagine: I still remember a girl riding the same school bus as my brothers and I, when one morning, she found out we were Jewish—she grabbed her little sister by the arm and dragged her away from the area in which we were sitting. Also, in first grade gym class, I’ll never forget the time another student said he couldn’t play with me anymore—because I “killed Jesus.” Some, most, even, simply can’t accept Reason…. —todd gold (Shreveport, Louisiana)

PS: The simple Irony, alone, helped, actually, in my personal cultivation of an overall sense of humor as I got older—no wonder I loved reading Vonnegut so much growing up—he definitely helped me see and accept so much of the Irony innate in The Human Condition…

The thuggish behavior is intolerable, of course, and in an ideal world the perps would be charged, convicted, and suitably punished for assault and battery, regardless of their political persuasion. But the victim's account leaves me wondering what triggered them. Was it because he was reading a book by Alan Dershowitz and said he had great respect for the author or was it because they gathered from the book's title that he, the reader, was "liberal"??

During World War I, the Sinai and Palestine campaign of the Allies led to the partitioning of the Ottoman Empire. Britain was granted control of the region by League of Nations mandate, in what became known as Mandatory Palestine. The British government had publicly committed itself to the creation of a Jewish homeland in the 1917 Balfour declaration. Palestinian Arabs opposed this design, asserting their rights over the former Ottoman territories (where both Jews and Arabs lived) and seeking to prevent Jewish immigration.
