I said on October 7th that I felt like I was back in 1938 experiencing Kristalnacht. Nobody listens to me. I hope they listen to you. I am more appalled every day.

It is a continuing nightmare to see the West especially embrace what it vowed it Never would Again.

What is the difference between the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany and the invasioin of Israel by Hamas? Hamas' spoken goal is the elimination of Israel and all Jewry. Over the ensuring years Germany invaded France and Western Europe. There were no outcries when the Allies counter attacked Germany with carpet bombing and Allied troops moving through France, and Germany until Nazis were exterminated. Hitle had pland to invade North America. After invading Israel what would Hamas do next? Would the Hamas in the West Bank invade the rest of Jordan. Would Hezbollah invade Lebanon ? Were there outcries about the US campaign against Japan after their unannounced attack on the US at Pearl Harbor ? Today the world is applying new standards for warfare. Evil is upon the world, and may be winning

It is shocking. My grandfather was an officer in the Polish Army and led Allied troops at Monte Cassino, which they took back from Hitler. My grandfather's mother was Jewish, although a convert to Catholicism. She had to get out of Poland before the War. My father and aunt were prisoners of war as children in Siberia. Sometimes they told us about our ancestry and the war (Nazis rounded up family members at a Jewish funeral and took them to Treblinka.) We had special dinners that were actually Jewish holidays where they tried to recreate the meals and traditions as best they could remember. But you couldn't buy a house in Southern California then if you were Jewish and the Jewish identity had to be suppresed. They were that afraid of antisemitism - it was kept under such secrecy - because they survived the war and came to America. They knew first hand what happened in WW II. (Poland was betrayed though. Poland was given to Stalin and the communists and my grandfather and the officers and Polish-government-in-exile never returned to Poland.) I only really learned the details about my great-grandmother 25 years ago. Although Catholic, I was so happy to know! I just turned 60. My dad and aunt have passed. Never, ever did I think that in so short a lifetime that Jewish people would be fearful of antisemitism again in America. It can't be allowed to happen. It is evil that anyone would support Hamas.

Liz, if you have not read Live Not By Lies by Rod Dreher, you might like it. he interviews ex-Soviet refugees about their perceptions of what it going on in America today. these people are the canaries in the coal mine. And that book was written 5 years ago.

That book is an excellent recommendation. I read it this year after someone on Coffee and Covid Substack recommended it. I won't say life changing, but I will say it clarified things and drove home what my job is here on earth.

Comparisons to Hitler (reducto ad-Hitlerum) are generally overused in modern politics. Most dictators aren't Hitler. Most extreme political movements aren't Nazi-ism. However... this is the first case in my lifetime where the comparison is entirely appropriate.

Militant Islam is Nazi-ism. Period. The West has so internalized the "everyone gets to believe whatever they want" argument of secular liberalism that I am uncertain whether we can fight this threat off. But many of us are going to try. Is it time to start putting together an underground railroad or set of safehouses for Jews? (And no, I'm not being facetious.)

I see this as an extension of the Culturally marxist/DEI conception of ethics. The Left in the US and elsewhere no longer applies an objective standard to moral issues, but filters all based on the identity of the parties and where they fit in their oppessed vs. oppressor heirarchy. Since they've tagged jews as "white colonialist oppressors," anything their anti-colonialist "victims" do in response is, by definition, considered moral and right, no matter how (objectively) reprehensible.

Alan you are 100% correct and I agree with you completely.

It's not realistic.

If we fight strength to strength, then we will lose.

The degenerates and evil you speak of has more firepower, more manpower, complete and total control of the political apparatus in most western states, and much deeper pockets.

America is weak: intellectually, physically, and financially. It's heavily indebted, near bankrupt, and most of its citizens are uneducated, obnoxious, buffoons. The crime and internal strife is so bad in American cities that stores are now removing toilet paper and other essential goods from the shelves for fear they will be stolen.

Car thieves steal in broad daylight.

People are assaulted and not prosecuted.

You live in a third world country, where over 40% of the population has a watered down bachelors degree from a third rate diploma mill, and where people read on average one book a year then have the audacity to call themselves "educated".

America is no position to do anything. It's broke, and the social fabric is in decay.

Additionally, your military is so inept that they left a 100B dollars worth of cutting edge military equipment in Afghanistan as they ran for their lives.

But despite all of that, you suddenly believe it's a good time for a tiny country like Israel, with very little international support to fight the entire middle east, along with woke academies, their social justice foot soldiers, and muslims worldwide?

The probability of victory is zero. Even if America and the U.K. side with Israel, neither will win a third world war.

I mean, they are already hunting Israeli's in Dagestan. And as long as this war continues, the worse things will get.

The prudent approach was to strike hamas, and gaza, which we did.

The imprudent approach is to invade, anger 90% of the world, 100% of the islamic community, and forever have to watch our back, at home and abroad, for fear some ignoramus will shout alluha akbar, and swing a sword at our head.

Passions are understandably high, and people want revenge, but this is almost suicidal.

I suspect that it is not a "turn" of the people, but a muted feeling that was set free and amplified and whipped up by the crowd. Have Yale students ever been for Israel? No. But when they see people freely and openly calling for the end of Jewish people in Israel and elsewhere I believe it encourages their own hate enough to make bold and hateful statements of their own without fear of any recrimination. Scary scary turn for our world. There must be strong push back now. If you are supporting a university that will not condemn the sorts of things like what happened at Cooper Union and expel the students involved in that, then your hard earned cash should not flow to them. Not a dime. Alan should really examine who his supposed friends are. They all seem to hate him.
