If Hunter Biden is not a criminal, then nobody is. It seemed to us on the right that the “prosecutor's” deal was a trick to get Hunter virtually unlimited immunity while the DOJ runs out the clock on other Hunter investigations.

Weiss claimed before a group of people that his authority WAS limited, so there's THAT.

The DOJ is corrupt all day long..Garland has sat on evidence in some cases and ran the clock out on others...In what universe would a defendant receive blanket immunity for giving nothing in return?

One way or another, Hunter will skate and Garland will not indict Joe no matter WHAT the evidence..

This is NOT first world justice !!!

Brave judge. Kudos to her.

She couldn't rubberstamp something so obviously improper, but she'll accommodate Hunter in the end...She apologized to poor, victimized Hunter for putting the kibosh on the deal, so she is SYMPATHETIC toward him.. You wait and see..

Good thing the judge read all the details or Hunter would be protected for the rest of his life from his criminal behavior.

"... if Donald Trump were to reclaim the presidency, he would have his justice department go after what he calls the “Biden crime family“ with a vengeance." ...Unlikely, he didn't do it to Hillary even when he had ample legal reasons for it. However, he would thoroughly clean house this time around, and not be so naive as in the first instance. Ultimately, the job will be done for him as various Biden Inc. impeachments, and criminal charges, are most likely before Fall 2024.

Our country's going to hell. Free speech is under assault. Trying to jail your political opponent. Where are you? Where are the libs? (Btw, cluster bombs? Where are the anti-war protesters?) You all never cared about the US. You are controlled opposition. You are a commie lib. Stand up now or go to Hell.

What's shocking to me is that a deal this complex and politically sensitive would be negotiated by the best Justice Dept lawyers. Whether you think that was a real adversarial negotiation or you think (as I do) that it was mostly cocktails and collusion... you would expect the deal to be rock solid.

And yet a district court judge blew it up by just asking a few simple questions: "Does this cover FARA" and "Have you ever structured a deal this way before?".

Either the DOJ was trying to pull a fast one over the eyes of the American people, or their best attorneys are idiots. Neither prospect is particularly appealing, but since I don't believe the latter, I must believe the former.

Thanks for your excellent insights, I was very relieved by what Judge Maryellen Noreika did today. As you eloquently say, "judges have a responsibility to decide whether a plea bargain is in the interests of justice" and "it is crystal clear that it has not been seen to be done by many rightfully skeptical Americans". I was one of them. To me it seems we have a 2-tiered system of justice. I am an immigrant and when I went through citizenship classes, they assured me that our constitution ensures "No one is above the law". You say the "The prosecution would prefer to hedge its bets", but I'm not so confident. Seems to me that the prosecution is colluding to whitewash the whole affair. So, I pray that Judge Maryellen Noreika has divine strength and protection so she can focus 100% in "reassuring voters that lady justice remains blindfolded".
