The media in the United States doesn't help matters; CNN and MSNBC's 24/7 promulgation of "hard right" justices placing women in chains, is grossly exaggerated. I'm not surprised someone might actually believe it, and then take matters into their own hands.
There are also reliable reports of dark money groups: namely, arabella advisors, that fund some of these more violent protests for political purposes; and if true, I think that is very concerning. Not to mention, any reasonable person should conclude that negative epithets through a speakerphone at 3:00 in the morning, accompanied with baseball bats, antifa masks, and signs that say "watch your back Kavanuagh" is not the definition of peaceful. So it seems to me that the goal here was to intimidate justices, which as you pointed out is generally not permitted.
