What would the reaction be if a publicly funded law school officially endorsed the candidacy of Donald Trump? Or officially supported white supremacy? Or invited as graduation speaker an overtly anti-gay bigot? Would defenders of such action claim free speech?
CUNY, thanks to open admissions, long ago became a radical breeding ground for DEI which is anti Semitic. and is a far cry from one of the best public universities inthe US in Professor Dershowitz's younger years. CUNY Law School is a woke freak show where anti Semitism festers and should be defunded
We need to take a hard look at who is running these institutions (hello alumni contributors!) and make appropriate changes. Otherwise the justice system will be irreparably polluted with this lunacy.
The open enrollment at cuny was a product of the liberal heyday of John Lindsey. I attended ccny, the former jewel of the system, that offered a first rate eduction to the working class and immigrants who could not afford or excluded from the Ivy League. With open enrollment, 1/3 of the freshman were in remedial education when I attended. In this environment, activism replaced competence as the goal
In Canada there are Freedom of Expression Rights and Human Rights Codes. The virulent hate speech made by Fatima Mohammed, if made in Canada, would be a criminal offence, and she would be prosecuted, so would Dean Sudha Setty and the University for supporting this speech. "A majority of developed democracies have laws that restrict hate speech, including Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, India, South Africa, Sweden, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom." It's one thing to have a right to free speech, but it's quite another to spread virulent hate speech and bigotry. This is not acceptable in a developed country.
