I still want to see links to those alleged police statements, but after posting the text above I learned from reports turned up by Googling that a woman named Virginia Giuffre mentioned Alan Dershowitz as one of a number of prominent men with whom she'd allegedly had sex in the course of her employment as a masseuse/courtesan by Jeffrey Epstein for two years beginning in August 2000, shortly before her 17th birthday. Giuffre made the allegations in a deposition filed in 2016 in a libel lawsuit against Ghislaine Maxwell for having accused her of lying in saying that Maxwell and Epstein had sexually abused and "trafficked" her. When the deposition was made publicly available in 2020 by the presiding judge after the lawsuit had been settled Dershowitz denied having had any sexual encounter with Guiffre; she sued him for calling her a liar; and he counter-sued for defamation. The parties dropped the lawsuits two years later, per a settlement that involved no quid pro quo other than issuance of a retraction from Giuffre in the following terms:
“I have long believed that I was trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein to Alan Dershowitz. I think Israel's strike on Hamas leadership hiding in Qatar, had a lot more to do with the Peace Plan and the release of the hostages, than pundits claim. Why? Because it showed that Israel was determined to get Hamas leadership no matter where they were hiding, any country, anytime, no matter what the American leadership said. Countries that supported Hamas realised they would be guaranteed to be drawn into a wider conflict with Israel, a war that any or all of them would lose....Qatar would end up looking like Gaza, nothing but ruins. It's Israel's steadfast determination and bravado that forced Hamas to the table, more than anything else. Yes, Trump did a great job in negotiations, unlike most politicians who talk incessantly and get nothing done, Trump love him or hate him, always gets things done. He is after all a businessman, the CEO of America. As all great leaders, Trump has no fear of critics.
We hold this truth to be self evident in the world and esp. the MidEast: diplomacy is fruitless without military strength, the spine necessary for peace. Though Israel is a western democracy, it is not operating in a western neighborhood. It is operating in a giant “no go” zone similar to what the Moslems have set up in Paris and many other cities, just far larger. Typical things done in the West to diffuse conflict, such as entering into negotiations, are looked upon as a sign of weakness and, counterintuitively to those in the West, this results in MORE aggression and savagery against the party who is just trying to be reasonable (by Western standards). No, these people don’t get it at all. In the Middle East, people play for keeps. This means that you have to be more brutal, more aggressive, and more willing to take casualties in order to punish your enemy, if you want to be taken seriously.
Israel is in the regrettable position of knowing all of this, yet being forced to act according to (nearly suicidal) Western standards. This is an extremely difficult balancing act and, as we have seen in these last two years, it has resulted in Israel losing approximately 1,150 soldiers, when they had the capacity to inflict the same amount of damage upon Hamas with perhaps 20% of that number of dead. But they were playing to a Western audience, so they had to be ultra careful, and sacrifice both lives and combat effectiveness in order to do this. And what reward did they get for EXCEEDING Western standards? Pretty much nothing except more baseless condemnation from Friedman (a self-hating Jew if there ever was one) and his fellow moral cowards. I sometimes wonder why Israel gives a damn what people in the West say, other than the President of the United States.
