...because most western democracies had Eternal Governing Parties who appointed judges and never thought the hoi polloi and its leaders - from Begin to Duda and Orban and Trump - would ever be in positions to do likewise...
Most changes were proposed in years past by members of the opposition parties. One would expect the opposition parties to enter into a dialog with the coalition. Instead, like 5 years old, they refuse to negotiate. They still have to admit (to themselves, all others know) that they lost the election. Instead they follow the demonstrators who are trying to copy the 1/6/2021 events in DC. So far, thankfully. without violence. When one hears former prime ministers, former chiefs of staff of the army and others asking people to take arms you must wonder when the first shot will be fired. It is very easy to make changes when you enter into a dialogue knowing that each side will not get everything he is wishing. Especially when the differences are not that wide (in spite of the claims). The refusal to negotiate proves that the issue is that of a sore loser unwilling to accept election results.
Here is another constitutional structural tension that has always been with us—“What would George Washington Do?”https://open.substack.com/pub/profvictoria/p/what-would-george-washington-do?utm_source=direct&r=bpwpi&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
